Assistant Manager (Maintenance)

Job Summary:

The Assistant Manager – HR will play a crucial role in managing all HR-related activities at the plant. This position is responsible for overseeing recruitment, training, employee relations, compliance with labor laws, performance management, monitoring HSE(Health, Safety, and Environment activities) and creating a positive workplace culture in a manufacturing environment. The candidate will ensure HR policies align with the company’s goals and are implemented efficiently at the plant level.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Talent Acquisition and Recruitment
    • Lead the end-to-end recruitment process for plant roles, including screening for interviews, interviewing, and onboarding of new employees (both skilled and unskilled).
    • Coordinate with department heads to forecast staffing needs and ensure positions are filled promptly with qualified candidates per job requirements.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with local recruitment agencies and trade schools to create a pipeline of talent for the factory.
  2. Employee Onboarding and Orientation
    • Organize orientation and onboarding programs to ensure the smooth integration of new employees into the company and plant culture.
    • Ensure all necessary documentation, contracts, and training (safety, health, environment, and operational) are completed during the onboarding process.
  3. Performance Management
    • Assist in implementing and managing performance evaluation systems in the plant.
    • Work closely with department heads to set KPIs and conduct KPI performance reviews for plant employees on a periodic interval basis.
    • Identify training needs and collaborate with the training team to provide development programs for workers and staff.
  4. Employee Relations and Engagement
    • Act as the first point of contact for employee grievances and resolve issues in a timely and effective manner.
    • Foster a positive work environment by organizing employee engagement activities and promoting team-building exercises within the plant.
    • Conduct regular pulse surveys and feedback sessions to gauge employee satisfaction and address concerns.
  5. Compliance and Legal
    • Ensure compliance with local labor laws, industrial safety standards, and company policies.
    • Maintain accurate employee records in line with statutory requirements, including attendance, wages, overtime, and benefits.
    • Collaborate with legal teams to manage disciplinary actions, layoffs, and other employment-related issues.
  6.  Health, Safety and Environment (HSE)
    • Promote a safe working environment by working with the Health and Safety team to conduct regular safety audits, training, and inspections.
    • Implement health and safety protocols and ensure all plant employees comply with factory safety standards.
    • Administer employee welfare programs, such as health insurance and other benefits.
    • Determine monitoring and review of external and internal issues.
  7. Industrial Relations
    • Build and maintain relationships with labor unions and manage collective bargaining of agreements.
    • Work proactively to minimize conflicts and disputes by fostering transparent communication between management and labor.
  8. Training and Development
    • Identify whether there is a need of  “Training needs Identification(TNI)”
    • Develop and implement training programs to improve the multiple skills and efficiency of workers and staff, especially in areas like safety and operational excellence.
    • Review monthly manpower as per approved budgeted manpower.
    • Add scope of QMS including CSR and identification of QMS processes.
  9. HR Operations
    • Oversee the timekeeping, attendance, payroll processing, and leave management system for the plant workforce.
    • Ensure accurate and timely salary disbursements and benefits administration.
    • Manage workforce scheduling and allocation in coordination with production managers to meet plant output targets.
    • Ensure timely completion of building maintenance-connected activities/jobs
    • Ensure proper functioning of administrative activities. (Canteen, transport, housekeeping & security)

Key Skills & Competencies:

  1. Strong understanding of labor laws and industrial regulations relevant to factory operations.
  2. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to handle employee grievances and resolve conflicts effectively.
  3. Experience in recruitment for blue-collar and plant roles, especially in manufacturing or related industries.
  4. Familiarity with performance management systems, employee relations, and engagement activities.
  5. Knowledge of Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) protocols within a factory setting.
  6. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multitask, and manage multiple priorities.
  7. Proficient in using HR software and tools for recruitment, payroll, attendance tracking, and performance reviews.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Graduate with MBA in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 5-7 years of experience in HR, with at least 2-3 years in a manufacturing/industrial plant setting.
  • Experience in industrial relations and dealing with labor unions is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of compliance, safety, and welfare policies in a factory setup.
  • Knowledge of Welding Consumables/Heavy Manufacturing will be an added advantage.
